There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and there is only one of you in all of time. This expression is unique, and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium. It will be lost. The world will not have it.
It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You have to keep open and aware to the urges that motivate you.
No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive.
Martha Graham
The wounds that are intolerable (the experience of being smothered, abandoned, lonely) are important to feel because the personality forms around not having to experience what is intolerable. Life becomes all about staying avoidant. We become identified with our defense mechanisms which arise from a place that is inauthentic as opposed to our true self. Not feeling these intolerable feelings means that we don't have energy for our lives. Our energy is instead spent hiding from our truth. If we continue to hide we don't have energy to discover what would be truly fulfilling.
Carole Burnstien, Ph.D.
If one doesn't constantly walk forward, the past sucks one back. The past is like an enormous sucking wind that sucks one back all the time. If you don't go forward you regress. You have constantly to carry the torch of the new light forward, so to speak, historically and also in your own life. As soon as you begin to look backward sadly, or even scornfully, it has you again. The past has a tremendous power.
Carl G. Jung
A man (woman) should know himself and his own peculiarities and have the courage to live by them. Only when a man lives in his own way can he be responsible and capable of action.
